Frenemies: "Gay" TV Arrives. To borrow the comment of an acquaintance quipping as to the name of the ice-cream company "Mr. Softee", What a Disappointment!
+
"Logo" television debuted last Thursday at 9pm. In case you didn't know, Thursday is "Queer's Day". Or so we heard in New Jersey when I was growing up. Why else such an odd start time? A Thursday nite, June 30th, the very last day of "Gay Pride Month".*
+
"Logo" is a product of Viacom, the third largest entertainment corporation in the Nation (after only Time Warner and Disney), with revenues of $27 billion a year. It is No. 69 (no comment) in the Fortune 500 and No. 176 on Fortune's "Global 500". Viacom's own website reveals:

Viacom is a leading global media company, with preeminent positions in broadcast and cable television, radio, outdoor advertising, and online. With programming that appeals to audiences in every demographic category across virtually all media, the company is a leader in the creation, promotion, and distribution of entertainment, news, sports, music, and comedy. Viacom's well-known brands include CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, VH1, BET, Paramount Pictures, Infinity Broadcasting, Viacom Outdoor, UPN, TV Land, Comedy Central, CMT: Country Music Television, King World, Spike TV, Showtime, and Simon & Schuster.

Surely Viacom can afford to do better.

Logo is dreadful, and antihomosexual. It is fundamentally misconceived — tho perhaps that should be "miss-conceived", because it is preponderantly female. Judging from more than 7 hours I have put into viewing its offerings since its debut, I estimate that Logo is 70% lesbian/women, 10% dragqueen/"transgendered", and only 20% gay.
+
Why on Earth are the two groups of human beings who are the very most different that people can be, gay men and lesbian women, thrown together on a single cable channel and forced to look at each other? There should plainly be two Logos: Logo Men and Logo Women. But at least Logo Men.
+
I do not believe that lesbians are a significant group in the real world. They achieve significance only thru their fraudulent inclusion in the huge gay world, to which they do not belong.
+
Gay men, being noble, patient, and confused, have permitted lesbians to intrude where they do not belong, even in the most grotesque ways, as pushing into homosexual men's sex lives: the executive director of the "Gay MEN'S Health Crisis", which provides advice about "safe(r) sex" to gay callers, is a woman! Astounding, perverted, disgusting, and infuriating, but absolutely true. That's as sensible as would be electing the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan to be the Executive Director of the NAACP!
+
Let me borrow here a phrase that my friend and fellow gay writer and AIDS Dissident John Lauritsen came up with: "synthetic insanity".
+
That is madness that no one really feels but nonetheless adopts as a political stance, knowing all the while that it is false.
+
The synthetically insane stance here is the knowingly false assertion that there exists a single, unified "lesbigay" or, even worse, "LGBT" (Lesbian [always first; gay men are always to be second-class citizens, even in their own movement], Gay, Bisexual, and "Transgendered") 'community', which is made up of people who are assertedly "the same" as each other so must unite, not just to fite a common enemy (heterosexual society's intolerance) but to love each other and support each other as "brothers and sisters"! Never mind that they HATE each other! No, that's never to be mentioned, but always denied. We LOVE each other and can't get ENUF of each other! If they had their druthers, gay men would spend all their time with lesbians, bisexual pervert losers — who can't admit they're "queer", or make up their mind; who use people of both genders and are absolutely incapable of committing to or loving any one person of either gender — and lunatic drag queens and drag kings who cannot accept the fact that biology is indeed destiny, and that gender is absolutely final and unalterable, something you have to accept to be sane.
+
Instead of helping confused people sort themselves out, accept their gender, accept their orientation, and move on, the "lesbigay" / "LGBT" 'community' prolongs their confusions and miseries, and delays their eventual emergence from madness and frustration into tranquil and joyous acceptance of who and what they are.
+
The losers who promote this madness are (Gay) Public Enemy No. 1. The harm that Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Donald Wildmon, Anita Bryant, and all the rest of the antigay sh*itheads of the world do is as nothing compared to the devastation wrought by the lunatic losers of the "LGBT" 'community'.
+
The first 3½ hours — let me repeat that, so you might understand how crazy Logo is: the very first 3½ hours of Logo's existence — was dominated by women.
+
A 1½ hour documentary history of the "lesbian-and-gay" experience in the United States was produced and narrated by women. It also embraced AIDS as "gay plague", even tho the majority of all AIDS cases, even in the United States, has always been among heterosexuals, a fact that you are not to know. (But, then, there are lots of facts about AIDS you are not to know.)
+
That was followed by the hour-long, contemptible and contemptuous TV Land special, "Tickled Pink" (see this blog's entry of June 29th), also narrated by a woman! Need I really point out that the great majority of documentaries in the regular (straight) world are narrated by men? Why are documentaries about "gays" always to be narrated by women? It's insulting. Extremely insulting.
+
Then that was followed by an hour concert by Melissa Etheridge!
+
Can the (straight) people behind Logo really be so stupid as to think that lesbians — the poor, weak sister of the "LGBT" 'community' — are numerous and rich enuf to sustain a major media enterprise? Or is this more of the "New Homosexual" (old heterosexual) crap we are endlessly subjected to, the bullsh*t — I'm sorry: cowsh*t — that gay men ARE lesbian women; "gay" is female; "homosexuality" is women reading poetry to women, not lust-filled, hairy-chested men having hard, hot, promiscuous sex with as many men as they can get?
+
Is Logo ignorant about the realities of homosexuality? Or are they hiding the steamy truth of gay men's powerful and relentless sexuality behind women's skirts? — as tho the bulk of lesbians ever wear skirts.
+
The hairy-chested (and, often, hairy-backed), beautifully muscled, cigar-chomping, tatooed, hypermale and hypersexual gay men of our big cities are invisible, nonexistent on Logo.
+
The utterly normal, ordinary, All-American Boys who want desperately to love a man and be wrapped in the arms of a man who loves them with all his heart and soul, don't exist on Logo.
+
Only freaks and dykes.
+
Logo is, as are all media, afraid to confront the reality that much of heterosexual society's animosity to homosexuality (in its real sense, mansex and man-with-man emotionality) derives from the refused recognition that homosexuality is the best of all possible worlds: you get to BE a man and HAVE a man.
+
Gay men can BE men all the time. They don't have to castrate themselves to accommodate pushy, needy, demanding women. They can leave the seat up on the toilet, and furnish their houses to their own tastes. They can sit silently beside each other and watch a game on TV, or shoot hoops, or lift weights with their buddies and not have to rush home to pay attention to a wife who talks, and talks, and talks and talks and talks! And they don't have to know what a duvet is, or a sham; or pile the couch or bed high with cushions; or cram every inch of the room with knickknacks and bric-a-brac.
+
They can scratch when they itch, and burp when gas requires. They can talk about feelings when they need to, but they don't have to run on and on about every obscure impulse that passes thru their mind. If they want kids, they can artificially inseminate a surrogate mother, or adopt, and not have to fite a furious bitch for custody of their son in divorce.
+
And the sex! It's just great. Men know what men want, and they do it. And do it. And do it, until they can't do it any more. And then they smile, plant a short but loving kiss on the lips of their partner, and go to sleep, arms around each other and happy to the core.
+
They know that the internal hydraulic pressure that drives male sexuality doesn't ever go away. It keeps building until released, and there's only one way out for the sexual fluids that build up every hour in the male body. You might be ticked off with your guy's attitudes about this or that, but at end, you've got to release the seminal pressure, you love him, he will "do it" with you, so you go for it. Case closed. You "do it", you're relieved. You go to sleep. And you're happy. Really, really happy.
+
And forget about moods. There is never a mood strong enuf to make a gay man refuse sex. You fite for two hours over money or neglect or whatever, then go to bed. You're still going to have sex, because gay men want sex every nite without fail.
+
Straight men just WISH they could have with women what we have with men. But they can't, because women are a mystery to men, whereas men understand each other implicitly, and if we have questions, we just ask, and answer, and it's over, settled, done.
+
We don't pretend to be more complicated than we are. We're intense, not complicated. And we like that.
+
It's a pity that Logo doesn't like any of that.
+
Logo is women, women, women; AIDS, AIDS, AIDS (which is not a gay issue); women, women; AIDS; women; AIDS, AIDS; women, women, women, women, women; AIDS, AIDS; men. That's right. Men are the caboose to a very long train of extraneous, tedious crap.
+
All such crap has got to stop. Gay men deserve a channel that speaks to their true, masculine nature, and does not tell them they have to identify with women and imitation-women.
+
Until that happens, Logo deserves a finely-rendered version of this crude "logo" I devised (I find that I don't have my good graphics programs on my new computer), with the mini-male symbol in pink and the maxi-female symbol in blue:

Logo for 'Logo'

I first made that claim in print in 1971, and it has more recently been noted in a number of online reference works, in articles I did not write nor even know about until I did a search on my name. See, e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_pride.
