Idiocy on New Orleans. I am very tired of hearing nonsense about rebuilding the poor areas of New Orleans — areas BELOW SEA LEVEL — even if it costs American taxpayers BILLIONS of dollars to build defenses for areas that should not be defended. Let the areas of New Orleans below sea level return to Nature. That would cost very little, just enuf to tear down and remove the crappy frame structures that were largely destroyed by hurricane Katrina anyway. We should be spending $0.00 trying to protect areas below sea level, right beside the sea! Let those neighborhoods become newly wild places, new wetlands, if that is what would happen if we moved the levees to protect only areas of New Orleans ABOVE sea level, and let Nature take its course below sea level. Let the naturally productive processes of wetlands work close in to New Orleans: homes for waterfowl and migratory birds of many species; nurseries for fish, frogs, turtles, and other reptiles (maybe even alligators, if they find such areas congenial). Turn these areas into greenlands and sites for ecotourism. How is letting sub-sea level areas return to Nature a bad thing?

Fiting Nature is often not worth the effort. Even if we win 9 rounds out of 10, that 10th is a doozy.

(The current U.S. military death toll in Iraq, according to the website "Iraq Coalition Casualties", is 4,416 — for Israel.)
